Midnight Juggernauts - Dystopia Review
Midnight Juggernauts

Dystopia(Astralwerks)

The word dystopia is defined as “a place where everything is very bad” or “a vision of a bad place.” This title is the complete opposite of what the Midnight Juggernauts’ debut album encompasses.

The trio based out of Melbourne, Australia mesh indie rock with psychedelic synth-driven electronica, conjuring the whimsical atmospheric sound of space itself. With the recent success of electro-rock acts like the Rapture, Hot Chip and Cut Copy, the Midnight Juggernauts should be able to hold their own with Dystopia, shaping an entirely new genre within the already existing one.

The deep vocals, thick bass and flowing synths on the first single, “Shadows,” could easily be mistaken for a collaboration between Justice and David Bowie, while the title track and “Aurora” have Pink Floyd’s signature sound and feel written all over them.

AMPLIVE - Rainydayz Remixes

Yet another concept mixtape has surfaced. This time around the chosen album is Radiohead's latest opus In Rainbows, remixed by Oakland DJ/Producer Amplive. I must say as much as I love Del Tha Funky Homosapien, it's a little odd hearing him rhyming over a remixed Radiohead track (Video Tape.) "Weird Fishes" however is beautifully reconstructed. It alone is worth the download. You can download the album HERE. Enjoy!

Tracklist

01 Rainydayz

02 Video Tapez (ft. Del The Funky Homosapien)

03 Nudez (ft. Too $hort & MC Zumbiof Zion I)

04 Weird Fishez

Kleerup

Kleerup proves that simplicity can sometimes be more effective. On his self titled album there are no club bangers and most of the tracks sound a lot alike, but somehow it works. "Hero" can easily be the new "Chariots of Fire" (if it's commissioned to the upcoming Olympics someone is sleeping) and "Until We Bleed" bleeds Telepopmusik. If anything check out the first 2 tracks. Enjoy!

Pendulum - In Silico

Pendulum's latest album In Silico is the perfect blend of genres. Drum and Bass with live Rock and Electronic influences. Think Tool, meets Roni Size, meets The Prodigy, meets Muse. Ok, that may be a little drastic, but I do hear a tad of those mentioned throughout this album. And on a side note, the cover of The Prodigy's "Voodoo People" they performed at Coachella blew me away. They can do it all. Below are a few tracks off In Silico . Enjoy!

Pendulum - Showdown

Pendulum - Different

Pendulum - Visions

Pendulum – Midnight Runner

Pendulum - Mutiny

Pendulum - Granite

Todd Edwards has been killin' it for years. His original tracks and remixes have a very funky, yet soothing feel to them. Check out what he did with Justice's "DVNO." It's hard to trace the original elements. Below are a collection of remixes new and old. And don't forget to go back and snag his Surkin remix I posted earlier. Enjoy!

Love these guys! I can't wait for Angles to hit the states. In the meantime I'll just have to play out the tracks I have. Remember, "Thou shall spell the word Pheonix P-H-E-O-N-I-X not P-H-O-E-N-I-X regardless of what the Oxford English Dictionary tells you." Enjoy!

Fatboy Slim Live Mix From Coachella 08

I was really hoping someone was recording this set as I watched...And sure enough, someone was. I'm not sure the set translates as well as it did live (with the visuals and all), but it's still heaps of fun. You can always check out the videos I posted earlier to get an idea of whats going on as you listen. Enjoy!

Sebastien Tellier "Sexuality" Remixes

Sebastien Tellier's latest LP Sexuality is nothing short of its name. If sex made music, it would sound like this album. It was also co-produced by Guy-Manuel AKA one half of Daft Punk. I know, it just keeps getting better. Below are a few remixes that aren't as sexy as the originals, but still worthwhile. Enjoy!

Ratatat - Shilla/Mahalo

LP3, the appropriately titled third album from Ratatat is scheduled for release on July 8th. The newly released first single from the album "Shilla" doesn't reek of Ratatat's familiar scent and completely lacks the energy "Wildcat" or even "Seventeen Years" displays. This makes me incredibly curious to hear the rest of the album, though I'm sure it's great. I guess I'll just have to wait. You can cop the new single and B-side HERE or below. Enjoy!

The Young Punx! - Your Music Is Killing Me/Fire

The Young Punx! are quite impressive. Their first LP Your Music Is Killing Me is hard to classify. Though it's obviously dance friendly "electronic" music, it shifts from House to Drum & Bass to Breaks without losing steam or your interest. All of this complete with loads of clever in-house samples. Enjoy!
